MedicalVillage Health Worker ProgramOMF trains Manobos to become Village Health Workers at the Bible School in Lumabag. Usually those that are trained are pastors wives because the classes are taught during the Pastor Training. So far there are 16 Village Health Workers in several villages who are responsible to keep certain medicines available and provide limited healthcare in the village since they are usually located quite a distance from a health clinic or hospital. Medical AssistanceOften there are medical cases in the village that require professional care in a hospital or clinic. Because of the full-time nature of caring for medical patients, OMF has a full time ministry devoted to providing this care. Often the care is on an outpatient basis and the patient will stay in the home of a missionary who is devoted to caring for them and provides them with a Christian atmosphere where they are encouraged and exposed to the Gospel. This missionary will also help facilitate those patients that require a hospital stay and will see the patient through the process of getting medical attention. When necessary the missionary will also work with local social workers to help reduce medical costs. There are also a number of free medical services that are offered from time to time like Operation Smile, which offers free operations on hair-lips, that are facilitated through this ministry.
